Our experience at the Rainforest Festival in Sarawak, Borneo was one of the best we have had. The setting, the people and playing one of our best gigs ensured that this was a trip we will never forget. This pic was taken in a hut at the Kuching Cultural Village. |
This is Innes and Tom arriving at the festival site. Tom is clearly taking things in his stride but Innes looks like he's worrying too much about the creepy crawlies. He did wear his Hebridean Celtic Festival t-shirt though, so Caroline, if you see this you owe us a pint. |
It wasn't all fun and games and on the morning of our third day we had to do a sound-check. It took up a whole hour of our swimming pool time. Believe it or not, the rainforest was the backdrop to the stage. It looked spectacular when lighted up after dark. This is a pic of Iain preparing himself to play in the intense heat. |
All around our hotel were coconut trees and coconut were just lying all over the place. One day while having some drinks by the pool we decided to try and open a coconut to see what it would taste like fresh off the tree. Here, Adam shows his caveman instincts battering the coconut of the edge of the path to almost no effect at all. |
Next to try and get into the coconut was Graeme. He had slightly better success than Adam and did manage to get a dribble of milk out of it. This of course is a rather unfortunate picture as Graeme has the coconut in a very questionable position. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the actual meat and we were made to feel pretty puny the next day when we saw an Orang Otang rip the husk off in a couple of seconds. |
Our lovely assistant ,Aline, who looked after us very well during our trip, took us to one of the best seafood restaurants we have ever been to. Iain is not in the pic as he took it but the line up from left to right is....Smit, Peter, Aline, Innes, Graeme, Tom (falling out of his seat) and Adam. (Sip your water Adam!!) |
Our gig was on our fourth night there and was better than we could have ever imagined. There was a crowd of about six or seven thousand madly enthusiastic revellers who gave us a fantastic reception. This is a picture of Peter after the finale on the Sunday night looking like he's just sat on a cactus. |
On our final night we had a photo session for some new promotional pics. We had some great fun running about the beach and watching the sun go down. The water was incredibly warm but we were very tentative to get in as Peter and Graeme got stung by jellyfish a couple of days earlier. It was a great end to a trip that will live with us forever. Many thanks to Jun Lin, Aline and the gang for making it happen. Can't wait to go back! |
